Joint Demonstration With Tax Resisters Not Glittering Success.

— (Can. Press.) — A
joint demonstration of the tax resisters’ league and militant suffragettes,
held here today as a protest against the sale of the belongings of those who
refuse to pay taxes, was broken up by a mob. The women were roughly handled
and half smothered with soot. Their banners were smashed.
The police finally succeeded in getting the women into a blacksmith shop,
where they held the mob at bay until the arrival of reinforcements. The women
were then escorted to a railway station.
