Protests Wired to Governor Who Is En Route to Washington

By The United Press

Three hundred merchants of Ponce sent a wireless message to Governor James R. Beverley, now en route to the United States, declaring that they would not continue paying the 2 per cent sales tax which the Governor recently refused to repeal. Merchants requested all their associates to join them in refusing to pay the tax.

Government workers, whose salaries Governor Beverley cut from 3 to 10 per cent in adjusting the insular budget, indicated that they will organize in protest against the reduction. Seven thousand workers are affected.
