Some recent news from here and there:
- There’s a new NWTRCC newsletter out. This is a special issue focusing on the 40th anniversary of the founding of the organization, and includes some reminiscences from war tax resisters from throughout the history of the group.
- The Republican party seems to believe that opposition to the recent IRS funding boost is a winning issue for them, so they are campaigning on pledges to rescind the spending. I wouldn’t take that too seriously. I mean, they also promised to rescind Obamacare back in the day, but just kind of flailed around once they had the opportunity. I’m categorizing this as campaign bluster rather than a serious proposal. But, in case I’m wrong, The Wall Street Journal breaks down how Republicans might try to claw back this extra funding should they retake Congress.
- Merchants in Marimanti, Kenya, have organized a tax strike to protest county government inattention to maintaining toilet facilities at the market.
- Guerrilla attacks on traffic ticket robots continue, with spray paint and fire disabling machines in Canada, Germany, and Italy, while vigilantes use their bodies and vehicles to block the cameras in Australia and the UK, and spray paint took out more in Germany and France, and others were taken out of service in a variety of ways in the U.S., Canada, Germany, and France. In Alburquerque, the city plans to install security cameras to watch the speed cameras because they keep getting vandalized.
