And then there are those who stop paying taxes because they think the tax rates are just too darned high (Lodi News-Sentinel ):
Woman faces battle with tax office
Medicine Lodge, Kan. (UPI) — A 42-year-old mother who recently was laid off work says she will refuse to pay income taxes until the level of taxation is reduced to 10 percent — the same amount God asks in tithes.
“I’m going to send in a report that I’m not going to pay my income tax this year,” Karen Horn said in a telephone interview. “And I won’t pay it again until they bring it down to 10 percent for everybody.
“I believe if everybody pays 10 percent — big business, little business, everybody — the country will be rich.
“I think 10 percent is enough. That’s all God asks. I’ve got two children to support and I just feel they’re asking too much.”
Furthermore, she was an organizer!:
Ms. Horn said eight or 10 other people in Medicine Lodge, a town of 2,400 in south central Kansas, also planned to write the Internal Revenue Service of their intention to stop paying taxes.
Another report added that Horn was in the 33% bracket and that she also planned to write to the IRS demanding a return of whatever taxes were withheld from her that year in excess of 10%.
