About the Editor

David Gross has been researching 19^th century cannabis literature for ten years. He was the creator of the Fitz Hugh Ludlow Hypertext Collection, which first made the text of The Hasheesh Eater and other early drug-related writings available on-line. In 1995, he released the first full biography of Fitz Hugh Ludlow.

In addition to The Annotated Hasheesh Eater and The Hasheesh Eater’s Companion, Gross is also the editor of We Won’t Pay!: A Tax Resistance Reader, American Quaker War Tax Resistance: A Documentary History, The Price of Freedom: Political Philosophy from Thoreau’s Journals, and My Thoughts Are Murder to the State: Thoreau’s Essays on Political Philosophy
