About the Editor

David Gross has been researching 19th century cannabis literature for ten years. He was the creator of the Fitz Hugh Ludlow Hypertext Collection, which first made the text of The Hasheesh Eater and other early drug-related writings available on-line. In 1995, he released the first full biography of Fitz Hugh Ludlow.

In addition to The Annotated Hasheesh Eater and The Hasheesh Eater’s Companion, Gross is also the editor of We Won’t Pay!: A Tax Resistance Reader, American Quaker War Tax Resistance: A Documentary History, The Price of Freedom: Political Philosophy from Thoreau’s Journals, and My Thoughts Are Murder to the State: Thoreau’s Essays on Political Philosophy
