I see some similarities in this vision of an unearthly temple to the revelations of John (Revelation 21:10-21), for instance in the various gemstones used to decorate, or the vision of a tree-lined river that follows. Ludlow’s visions were heavily influenced by Christian mythology and imagery, though in this case he doesn’t explicitly acknowledge this. Another possible contributor to Ludlow’s visions in this chapter is Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s “Kubla Khan.”
